The highlight of our trip!

Due to a combination of great timing (we unknowingly booked our tour during Plovdiv’s 10th Anniversary Young Wine Festival) and Vasil’s expert guidance and hospitality, our tour of the wine country around Plovdiv was the highlight of our recent trip to Bulgaria. We visited two wineries (enjoying a delicious lunch at the second) and then went on a short walking tour of the Plovdiv old town, before sampling some of the wines at the Young Wine Festival (where we also had the pleasure of meeting Zina, Vasil’s wife and co-founder). The day ended with appetizers (and more wine) at a wine bar featuring the wines of yet another local producer. An all around fantastic experience!

See the side of Bulgaria rarely tasted

The terrain, the towns, the people and the wine! It’s high time the world gets a taste of Bulgaria’s wines and we are fortunate to have had Vasil take us through some of the proudest sights Bulgaria has to offer. His knowledge of not just his home country but where to find the best wines is admirable. We enjoyed his company and our weekend trip and would gladly do it again.

Sofia Becomes the Wine Capital on the Balkans Between September 17 and 19

Sofia is preparing to host The Balkans International Wine Festival for the ninth time, between September 17th and 19th. For the second year in a row, the wine town will rise in the open space in front of the National Palace of Culture, where Sofia residents and guests of the capital will be able to describe the most impressive Balkan wine varieties. For the first time in the heart of the festival site a Golden Tent will rise, where visitors will find the award-winning wines from the competition, scheduled for September 9-11 in Belgrade. The lavish three-day event will be held entirely outdoors, providing entertainment in a comfortable and safe environment. The competition judges president - the world-famous Master of Wine Konstantinos Lazarakis - will greet the guests of the event with a pre-recorded video.
