"A great introduction to Bulgaria and its wines"

We visited in early May 2017. After a minor hiccup with our flights to Bulgaria we were able to alter our itinerary for Vasil to pick us up in another city. We had five nights and six days in our tour. When we initially contacted the company Vasil and Zina suggested rearranging our itinerary to include the Wine and Gourmet festival in Plovdiv. This turned out to be just one highlight of our trip. Vasil, who drove us around and acted as our guide and interpreter when needed, was very knowledgeable about the ancient and recent history of Bulgaria. This background made our experience much more meaningful. We visited a total of six wineries, all obviously chosen to give us a broad understanding of the different wine regions and styles. Our trip included visits to archeological sites and museums as well as a meeting with the operator of a rose oil producer. We stayed at two excellent hotels, and we had recommendations for places to dine. The service from Bulgaria Wine Tours before and during the trip was professional and friendly. I wholeheartedly recommend this company for anyone who wants to visit Bulgaria.

"Great people, great wine"

The hosts were fantastic-- they know a ton about wine and you can't help but get swept away by their enthusiasm. We did a wine tasting at their site in Plovdiv. All the wine was delicious, and there was a full charcuterie board (with fresh Bulgarian cheese and salami) to accompany it. You get a lot of bang for your buck, too. We ended up stocking up on gifts/wine for ourselves for the rest of the trip here. I would highly recommend adding this onto your Plovdiv itinerary!

"So thoughtful, so interesting, so much fun!!"

We traveled on a privately arranged 5 day tour with friends, last September (sorry to be slow getting round to writing a review). Vasil and Zina planned the tour, and also made arrangements for us to stay on afterwards in Burgas and Sofia. Beforehand I knew next to nothing about Bulgarian wine, or indeed Bulgaria generally. The wine tour went just at the right pace, and Vasil is an outstanding guide and extremely helpful in dealing with our requests. We visited several different and contrasting vineyards, and also some very interesting (and scenic) historical sites. I now know quite a lot about Bulgarian wine, and some of it is very good indeed. I also know more than I did about winemaking processes. We also learned a lot about the history of Bulgaria, which is fascinating, and in particular we learned much about Plovdiv, which is arguably the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe, with layer upon layer from different civilizations. The arrangements after the tour were also done very competently and appropriately, with good hotels and transport arrangements, and excellent suggestions for things to do. The whole experience couldn't really have been better.

“The best way to discover Plovdiv... ”

A good wine tour is always a brilliant way to really get under the tourist facade of a holiday destination. It combines local knowledge, great traditional food, fascinating stories and of course bundles of great wine. This tour certainly delivers all of this and more. We spent a day with Vasil visiting three varied and interesting wineries.

We sampled wine varieties we'd never tasted before (mavrud is brilliant!), had a delicious local meal and even got to investigate local ruins.

The wineries' staff were incredibly friendly and generous. The views and buildings were breathtaking, complimenting the high standard of the wine from all three wineries. I honestly believe bulgarian wine has a bright future and with people like Vasil there is no doubt their passion will help this wonderful wine region get the praise it deserves.

Thank you Vasil it was a perfect day.

"What an utterly memorable and magnificent wine tour..."

What an utterly memorable and magnificent wine tour at Starosel winery. Vasil, our tour guide, was warm, enthusiastic and hugely knowledgable, which made the day even better. The tour itself was exceptionally organised and the wine was excellent!

Zina and Vasil have created a wonderful tour experience, one that I highly recommend to anyone visiting Plovdiv.

We had such a fantastic day, one that we will always remember.

Thanks to Zina and Vasil we learned about Bulgaria's rich wine-making traditions, visited two very distinctive and interesting wineries near Plovdiv, spent time with wine makers, and tasted delicious wines - some straight from the barrel! “Fun tour hosted by Bulgaria Wine Tours”

Really great and fun weekend organised by Bulgaria Wine Tours. My friends and I went to Plovdiv and not only did we receive a tour of the old town, we also spent the day at vineyards and blended our own wine. I loved it. I definitely recommend Bulgaria Wine Tours!

Bulgaria Wine Tours organized a full-day tour of three vineyards south of Plovdiv...

We spent a marvelous day visiting three vineyards south of Plovdiv. The three were all different from each other, but in each we toured the facility and tasted the wines the vineyard produced. Vasil was an excellent guide and is able to arrange a wide variety of tours in the region, In each case, he adds something of interest: he took us to the Red Church, an exquisite ruin of a church well off the main road. We never would have found it on our own.

“ Their service was professional and efficient...”

I have just been to Bulgaria with 16 of my customers for a [tailormade] tour which was organised by a local company Bulgaria Wine Tours and we all had a great time.

Bulgaria Wine Tours is run by Vasil and Zina and their website is https://bulgariawinetours.com/

They organised an excellent, varied and interesting 4 night/5 day itinerary, and their service was professional and efficient. Vasil and Zina come with my highest recommendation.

Fantastic day, wonderful wine!

My partner and I booked a one day tour from Plovdiv around the wineries in the Thracian valley. Vasil was a wonderful guide! The day was well organised and was a perfect balance between drinking, eating, touring the winery sites and facilities and learning more about the re-emerging Bulgarian wine industry. The day was also broken up with a visit to the red church, which was a great way to experience a little bit of the regions history, while sobering up so we could enjoy the wines at the l next stop. Each wine stop along the way was slightly different making the tour all the more interesting. The staff at the wineries were also very knowledgeable and friendly! Unfortunately for us we were weight limited and were only able to buy a few bottles, however we did manage to get half a dozen and have enjoyed a few before going home! The Bulgarian varietals, Rubén and mavrud were fantastic, however we were still able to enjoy some favourites, including Cabernet sauvingnon and Chardonnay. We would love to come back for a longer trip! Hope to see you next time Vasil!

A great way to experience Bulgarian wines

I would highly recommend signing up for one of their tours. The guides are very knowledgeable and happy to accommodate any questions or needs. The vineyards included in the tours were personally selected. You would definitely get your money's worth and learn about Bulgarian wines from people who are truly interested and invested in the topic. Not to mention that all wines we tried were great and the vineyards were so diverse that they have something for every taste.
